L.S. Dunes kicked off the Like Magick tour in Austin at Parish on a rowdy Tuesday night. Rock veterans Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance), Tucker Rule (Thursday), Tim Payne (Thursday), Travis Stever (Coheed and Cambria), and Anthony Green (Circa Survive) took the stage, opening with “Like Magick” from their latest album Violet, the crowd dove straight into a nonstop mosh pit that didn’t let up until the final note rang out. The band tore through a packed setlist, mixing live debuts with a few deeper cuts. Between songs, they kept a playful bit going, trying to sink a shot into the mini basketball hoop hanging from Parish’s balcony, giving everyone a chance to catch their breath before diving back into it. Green has a knack for breaking down the wall between the band and the crowd—singing alongside fans, reaching out to hold their hands, and making the entire room feel like one. The band has a magnetic way of connecting with its audience. Closing with a two-song encore of “Paper Tigers” and “Forgiveness,” the night wrapped with the same raw intensity it started with.
