PREVIEW: Levitation’s Halloween Freakend

AUSTIN, TX | FAR OUT LOUNGE | OCTOBER 2025 | BY AVERI VILLANUEVA

Halloween weekend in Austin isn’t just about costumes; it’s about chaos. Levitation’s Halloween Freakend is here this week, taking over the Far Out Lounge with two nights of distortion, trance, and pure mayhem.

Friday night opens with Viagra Boys and Stereolab; opposite ends of the spectrum, but both essential. Viagra Boys bring their sweat-soaked punk energy and unhinged humor, making every second feel crazier than the last. Frontman Sebastian Murphy turns the whole set into a fever dream of sarcasm and unfiltered madness. Then, Stereolab takes the same madness and flips it inward. Feeling as if you’re drifting through bright neon clouds, beautiful basslines, harmonies, and a sound as smooth as butter. It's the calm after the storm, humming with electricity.

Saturday pushes the edge even further with Machine Girl, who doesn’t just perform; they detonate. Their sound is fast, loud, and full of digital innovation. Mixing electronic beats with punk energy, it sounds like your computer and drum kit are having a meltdown at the same time.

Lastly, Clown Core and Black Moth Super Rainbow wrap up the weekend in true Levitation fashion. Clown Core brings a mind-bending blend of jazz, metal, and electronic sound. It’s bizarre, sharp, and captivating. Black Moth Super Rainbow shifts the mood, taking the crowd through dreamy layers of sound that feel nostalgic and otherworldly. It’s the perfect ending to an unforgettable, jam-packed weekend.

Every year, Levitation reminds Austin why it’s the capital of weird. It isn’t just a show you see, it’s one you feel in your bones… and your eardrums—two nights of a unique, one-of-a-kind sound that hits every corner of the crowd.

And if you’re not there, you’ll wish you were.
