Following their 2024 album "Memory Of A Day," featuring collaborations with Charli XCX, HAIM, Tove Lo, MARINA and Christine and the Queens, Phantogram is back with a grooving, electronic-forward ethereal single in collaboration with Whethan, one of the defining electronic producers of the 2020s.

The New York duo, composed of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter, has made historic strides in their career path recently. They have previously toured with acts like The Antlers and Alt-J, producing legendary alternative albums like Eyelid Movies and making a killing in the indie space.

Whethan is a dynamic producer who has worked with the likes of Oliver Tree, Dua Lipa and Rico Nasty, with more than 6 million monthly listeners to his name on Spotify.

The track's bassline follows along like a heartbeat, with occasional synthetic, string-like electronics introducing Barthel's vocal. The track features an infectious hook, with a dark bassline that contrasts with emblematic echoes from Barthel. She croons, "You're in my head / You're in my head burning / When no one's there / You're everywhere I am." There's something distinctly melancholic about this track that sets it apart from the duo's other songs, giving it a more hushed, dynamic feel.

The single is an interesting collaboration between two artists with different yet harmonious styles. Phantogram, a multi-instrumentalist electronic-rock group with dreamy tones, pairs with the more electro-pop-laden producer in perfect coalescence. The track is lucid in tone, with a burning heaviness that grounds more ethereal vocals from Barthel.

Phantogram discussed the single's release, saying, "'In My Head' was an idea we thought had strong potential, but couldn't quite find the right way to execute it. Upon meeting Whethan, we decided to try working it out with him, and it turned into this very cool hybrid of both of our styles."

Phantogram will be playing across the United States for their Running Through Colors Tour. You can listen to Phantogram on Spotify and Apple Music, or follow them on their Instagram for tour updates.
