On a warm and sunny Saturday evening, grentperez brought his Backflips in a Restaurant tour to New York City’s Terminal 5. grentperez’s debut album, Backflips in a Restaurant, was released on March 28th, 2025. The album showcases his artistry, infectious music production, and his ability to strongly connect with listeners.
Alt-indie pop artist Rocco kicked off the night with a collection of songs from his catalog. Rocco knows how to control an audience with his dancing and strong stage presence. After Rocco’s stellar performance, the whole stage was set up as an intimate restaurant (which is fitting given the name of the album and tour). grentperez came out on stage behind a setpiece where you could only see his silhouette. After briefly serenading the audience from the setpiece, he came rushing out to hype up the crowd. He performed an amazing set by combining upbeat, grooving songs to dance to with more slow-down, love songs where the crowd sang along. He played tracks from his new album, his viral hit “Cherry Wine”, an unreleased song, and a couple of additional songs from his catalog. His strong charisma created funny interactions with the crowd and made every transition between songs memorable. His fans (including myself) were indeed treated with a wide variety of his songs.
The entire night was indeed stellar. Rocco and grentperez really entertained and connected with the audience. It was definitely a recipe for a fantastic and memorable night.
