AUSTIN, TX | MOHAWK’S | AUGUST 20, 2025 | BY ELINA CARRASCO

Mothé’s return to their home state came due to the release of their latest sophomore effort, Total Popstar, on Aug. 1st. Performing on Aug. 20 at Empire Control Room with opener Farmer’s wife, the alternative artist blazed through tracks from their newest record while cutting back to old favorites from their debut, I Don’t Want You To Worry Anymore

Opening act and beloved Austin quintet Farmer’s Wife celebrated lead singer Molly Masson’s birthday with a wistful performance. The band’s dreamy textures set a lush foundation for Masson, whose magnetic stage presence cast a spell over the audience as they ran through tracks from their newest EP, Faint Illusions

Joined by guitarist and keyboardist Eian McNeely, Mothé stormed into their set with a defiant attitude, radiating an energy that suggested they couldn’t care less about anyone’s expectations. Unapologetically herself, Mothé danced and sang with abandon, transforming Mohawk’s intimate indoor stage into a pulsing nightclub. At one point, they declared to the crowd, “I hope you feel validated or invalidated and nothing in between,” a line that perfectly captured the night’s emotional extremes and their music’s unapologetic spirit. A kaleidoscope of fierce attitude and vulnerability, their set blew away new and old listeners who gathered for the alt-pop artist’s dynamism.
