When the doors of Deep Ellum’s live music venue, Club DaDa, opened on February 6, fans of both Austin-based bands, Night Cap and Flight by Nothing began to fill the venue that can hold up to 400 people. Fans acclimated to the venue by socializing at the bar and getting the best standing-room spot they could grab. As they patiently waited for the show centered around Night Cap’s newest album “It’s Happening,” which was released September 26, 2025, Indie and alternative rock band, Flight by Nothing, took the 20 by 14 foot stage.
Lead singer, Conner, began Flight by Nothing’s set in the middle of the crowd starting “Welcome to The Void,” which starts off as an eerie sound, with strong piano and drums. As the song was building, Conner made his way to the stage and slowly built up the tension for the heavy guitar riff that’s welcomed at the end of the song, setting a great tone with the audience.
The feel-good, bedroom rock vibes continued as the band transitioned into “Outtasight.” The crowd became a sea of waving hands welcoming the groovy tunes, singing back to the band, “I just wanna drive with you, dance all night.”
Being from Dallas, the band said they felt right at home being back on a stage in their hometown. They’re known to want to foster a space where fans can sing and dance without worry, and this crowd didn’t disappoint. During their set, Conner made sure to tell the crowd how fun they are to keep the good vibes flowing.
Huey’s vocals flooded the speakers as the band began “Too Bummed To Dance,” keeping up with the groovy sound, but adding in more of a rock n’ roll feel as the crowd began headbanging during the bridge, where the drums and guitar are heavily amplified.
Keeping that energy, fans began cheering as the band began singing an unreleased song, “Chemical.” The crowd responded tremendously, especially because of the heavy drum beat laced throughout the song.
As their set went on, the energy only became more amplified, with tons of fan connections made with the band throughout the night. The most memorable fan interaction had to be when Conner invited the fan in the very front, practically touching the stage, to hold bongos during the song, “Here We Go.”
They slowed it down briefly with the cover of Player’s 1977 hit song, “Baby Come Back.” This track proved to be timeless as the crowd began belting the lyrics back to the band. The tempo quickly picked back up with “Shiver,” making everyone move to the sunny beat with a smooth melody.
Following that note, Flight by Nothing performed their new single, “Stay the Night,” which was released right before this show on January 30, 2026. This super catchy shoegaze tune with whistles in the background made the song feel very nostalgic and lighthearted.
Things slowed down during “Back For More,” from their 2023 album BACK FOR MORE. While on the more laid back theme, this song holds a powerful message that signifies that everything works out, eliciting a great response from the crowd. The band also played “track 02,” one of my favorites, also from the same album.
Their set ended on a strong note with “COCAINE IS OK!,” which sounds as chaotic as the song’s name is. The heavy-metal sound echoed throughout the venue as the crowd began a mini-mosh pit, the venue completely full by this point.
Flight by Nothing did a great job setting the stage and tone for Night Cap, having a natural aura and ability to captivate the audience on the stage, who had a sold out show by the time it was time for them to perform.
As the lights dimmed and Night Cap walked onto the stage, the crowd erupted with cheers, the venue now at maximum capacity. As their first song began to play, you could feel the high energy radiate around the room.
The 2017 formed band is known for their feel-good melodies and nostalgic yet futuristic sound. After gaining a large following from their hit song, “Everest,” they’ve been rocking stages all around Texas. With their new album, “It’s Happening,” the band continues to grow and is expanding their touring.
The indie rock and alternative sound continued as the band played “Will You Call,” keeping the bass and drums in a steady, upbeat pace. As the crowd responded to the song with shouts and cheers, lead singer Ryan King said even though he’s from Austin, Texas, Dallas is like their second home.
The sardine packed venue swayed and danced as the band played songs from their 2024 self-titled album, including alternative and contemporary song, “Blanks.” They kept the slower, more intimate melodies with a strong drum beat going as King transitioned into “Rewind,” a heartfelt song about wishing you could go back to a specific moment in time and experience it again.
As they continued the second show of their tour, fans were pressed against the stage in the front and were standing on chairs in the back to be able to see over the sea of people pressed shoulder to shoulder.
Night Cap then began to play more groovy rock and roll tunes, like “Hypnotizer” and the album-titled track, “It’s Happening.” With these two songs, it’s easy to escape within the captivating guitar riffs done by Jake Bomgaars and light, smooth falsetto-vocals from King, and be fully immersed in their music.
As the band’s rock ballads began, the audience began belting lyrics from “Say Your Name” and “Dark Eyes,” emitting strong emotions that were palpable throughout the crowded club. After the head-banging subdued, the crowd began screaming to the band’s bassist, Alex Alfonso, “Let’s go Alex!”
The community-feel continued throughout the Austin-based band’s set got the crowd jumping with energetic rock and groovy track “Honey” and singing back loudly with “Sentimental.” The band members smiled broadly back at their fans as they let loose and enjoyed their set to the fullest.
The crowd was at its loudest as they sang, “So you feel like falling around in circles feeling sentimental,” the band’s most popular song on Spotify with 3,802,603 streams.
Night Cap blends sounds of alternative and indie rock with acoustic groovy tunes, a very unique yet familiar sound. As reflected in its crowd, their music appeals to people of all walks of life because not only are their sounds familiar, their lyrics are relatable.
Ending their time on Club DaDa’s stage for the night, the band took time to thank and cheer for Flight by Nothing, and called them onto the stage to dance to the next song. Their energy and chemistry was felt throughout the room as the crowd formed a mini-mosh pit to, “Like That.”
As fans began to chant, begging for an encore, the upbeat-band obliged and played their swoon-worthy timeless sounding track, “Lady of the Moon,” ending on a sweet, ethereal note.
It’s no secret as to why Night Cap sold out the second show of their It’s Happening tour with Flight by Nothing — the joyful feel-good vibes could be seen throughout the cramped club. It’s refreshing and necessary to have an outlet to feel good and be yourself, and both bands effortlessly provided that for Dallas, allowing people to come together to have a good time. I have no doubt their tour will bring continued success as they inevitably gain more fans.
