The cold couldn’t stop fans from lining up to see UK band The Wombats in Atlanta. They just released their new hit album Oh! The Ocean, and everyone was eager to hear this amazing album live. Opening act Asymptomatic had a high-energy and fun-filled set. The Athens, GA, nine-piece band played piano, drums, guitar, an accordion, trumpet, and bongos. Their catchy tunes got the crowd moving and put a smile on everyone’s faces.
The Wombats started with “Moving To New York,” from their first album. Longtime fans started singing along the second they took to the stage. The production showcased a backdrop of wombat fur, strobe lighting, and spotlights on each member. Lead singer Matthew could not contain his excitement and was singing his heart out. Lights shine blue and purple during “Techo Fan,” with bass player Tord jumping up and down every chance he could. They toned it down a bit for an acoustic version, “Lethal Combination,” where fans put their lights up. Playing to their name, some crew members dressed up as wombats and came out during “Ready for the High.” The entire night was exhilarating and one to remember. Don’t miss out on seeing The Wombats if they’re in your area!
