GALLERY: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
MOHAWK | AUSTIN, TX | NOVEMBER 14, 2025 | BY DREW DOGGETT
On November 14th at Austin’s Mohawk, Baltimore’s funk vanguards Pigeons Playing Ping Pong tore through two tightly wound elastic sets. They launched straight into a high-energy “Porcupine,” and the extended grooves never let up. Toward the end of their first of two sets, the crowd roared as Eddie 9V joined them for a funked-up cover of “Eminence Front.”
With the house lights pulsing, the band mixed newer material with long-time staples like “Moonwalk” and “Melting Lights,” giving the night a perfect balance of familiar and elevated. The energy was communal, as most people around me seemed like repeat pilgrims.
Jeremy shredded, Ben levitated, Greg kept the dance-floor spirit alive, and Gator barked and hollered in full command. These Maryland road warriors aren’t just surviving the modern jam-band landscape - they’re thriving in it. A perfect fit for Austin’s Red River district.
