Up and coming alternative hip-hop artist Jyou is striking the Nashville music scene with his rad new single “fallin”. Alongside collaborator KON, Jyou uses “fallin” to express the feeling of coming to terms with, and eventually embracing the fact that you’re falling in love.
The alluring tune kicks off with mellow brass notes before introducing a strong bassline that makes its presence known for the entirety of the song, before jumping straight into the lyrics “Feel like every time we touch, I just get this rush, I don’t want to say too much, this just might be deeper than lust.” It’s a knowing encapsulation that feelings for someone might be getting more serious than you initially anticipated, all to keep you drawn in for the duration of the tune. The song then slips into the chorus in which Jyou proclaims, “You may think I’m trippin’, but I’m fallin’, fallin’, fallin’, fallin’, fallin’,” a clever play on words that is continuing to be supported by the groovy sound of brass.
The track is carried by percussion that smoothly leads into an energetic rap segment. Kicking it off by directly stating “Love’s in high demand,” this portion explores not just accepting your feelings, but also giving reassurance that these feelings are much stronger than any similar ones that may have been in the past. It’s clear he prefers it that way as he sings, “I’d been through that, I'd rather this.” Throughout the rap, the music periodically stops before picking right back up again in almost no time, but the vocals keep going throughout the entirety without pausing, reminiscent of a heart skipping a beat and a mind being full of words being brought to life through song. The track returns to the chorus before ultimately closing out with some vibrant synth beats.
Jyou’s creativity and nonconformity shine through clearly in “fallin’.” Although Nashville is known for being immersed in country music, Jyou refuses to be confined to that musical margin of his native city. In “fallin’,” he utilizes captivating sonic mediums such as stellar synth keys and powerful basslines to stand out against the crowd and make a name for himself beyond Music City. “Fallin’” is a cheerful love song that is doting and perfect for the tail end of summer.
KEEP UP WITH JYOU
