NEW MUSIC: Ana Luna’s “Can We Pretend We Just Met At A Bar”

Los Angeles-based musician Ana Luna takes listeners on a journey of exploring honesty within oneself in her new single “Can We Pretend We Just Met At A Bar?”. The moody track contemplates what it’s like to be haunted by your past with someone and not necessarily wanting to let go of what once was there, but knowing that it would ultimately be the best thing to do for yourself.
Supported by a pillar of pensive production featuring imaginative piano chords, the song kicks off with Ana’s earnest vocals toying with the idea, “If only we met for the first time tonight.” The engrossing backing track is quite dreamlike, drawing the listener in intently so that they can get a better understanding of what Ana is ruminating on throughout the song. Ana continues to ponder more “if onlys” with this person throughout the song, carrying on with “If only we didn’t know how we end up.” The chorus continues with this theme, with Ana soulfully exclaiming, “If only the past didn’t have a hold on us, and if only the future wasn’t doubted.”
The song progresses with a building vehemence that adds to the intensity of the feelings being conveyed. The production becomes more lively at the bridge, boosting the energy surrounding the song as Ana begins to sing “But honesty means that I’ll lose you, and I’d rather take what I can get.” The bridge takes us on the final lap of denial with the lyrics “What is right for me? What is good for me? I know I should be wise.”Everything builds up together as the bridge carries on, symbolic of a war within one’s mind. It all starts to calm down as Ana accepts things for its reality, slipping into the chorus one final time before ending the track by confessing, “I’m ready to be honest.”
“Can We Pretend We Just Met At A Bar?” is a true testament to vulnerability within oneself when it comes to relationships. The powerful ballad weaves the listener into the striking story being told, allowing them to get lost within the meaningful lyrics and overall captivating sounds to become one with the music. Ana Luna is bearing it all with a wide open heart. Her melodic vocals and raw lyrics fuse to create a dynamic production.
