Burnsville, Minnesota-formed indie rock band, Durry, stopped by on Oct. 24 at Antone’s Nightclub for their “YOUR FRIEND FROM THE REAL WORLD W/ GULLY BOYS” tour in Austin. Accompanying them were fellow Minnesota-based alternative rock band, Gully Boys, who opened up the night with a stellar performance before the brother-sister duo, Austin and Taryn Durry took the stage.

Ensuring their performance stood out, the band created an interactive environment for their fans — this includes:

  • Hiding several special edition VHS tapes of “B.U.L.L.Y.,” Bio-Unit For Lethal Litigation of Youngsters, a mini movie about the album, in random places across every city they’ve visited on tour.

  • Having a Super Smash Bros game running in the background of their concert, and welcomed the audience to play while performing.

  • They had an inflatable tube man running amok on stage during their song “IDK I Just Work Here.”

Their nostalgic songs brought the audience back to their youth, with lyrics about hitting up the arcade, playing video games or getting into trouble after school. The visuals further enhanced the audience’s experience, alternating  depending on the song being performed — transitioning from traversing a late-night cityscape during “Polaroid,” to a futuristic bio-chart called the “FREAKOUTMETER” in “I’m Fine (No Really).” This showcased the versatility that Durry is known for.  Durry and the Gully Boys highlighted new and innovative ways of providing an experience during a show, when done right, will result in a memorable performance that can blow a crowd away. Although their time in Austin was short, they made a lasting impact on new and old fans alike.

KEEP UP WITH DURRY
