Queens of the Stone Age bring the “Alive in the Catacombs” Tour to Austin
BASS CONCERT HALL | AUSTIN, TX | NOVEMBER 19, 2025 | BY ELINA CARRASCO
The Queens of the Stone Age brought the “Alive in the Catacombs” Tour to Bass Concert Hall in Austin. The band recorded their EP “Alive in the Catacombs” in July of last year, taking inspiration from Josh Homme’s long-standing fascination with the Catacombs. The recording, a raw and spiritually charged performance, translated effortlessly into its live constituent. As Homme wandered into the crowd, wielding a meat cleaver, pointing it at both himself and the mesmerized faces in the crowd, he was able to draw you in from the moment he sauntered onto the stage. The performance was a compelling and immersive experience that truly left me speechless. The orchestra, comprised of local musicians, was an expansion of the world that the band builds in its songwriting, and as the end neared, it was hard for both the audience as well as Homme to say goodbye. Before their final song, “Long Slow Goodbye,” Homme candidly shared that he “didn’t want it to go away” because “if you’re going to be so far away from everyone you love, these are the moments we live for… where it just feels like we are together.”
